July Tri-Polish Challenge: Tribal

Good afternoon! I’m doing more housework today, and I just looked down at my nails and hope I am not ruining them! For the second July Tri-Polish Challenge, I decided to try out a tribal manicure. I’ve never done one before, and so I used a tutorial from this site. Let’s see how I did, shall we? I used these essie polishes today:

essie mojito madness, avenue maintain, butler please, licorice, beyond cozy

From left to right: essie beyond cozy, mojito madness, avenue maintain, butler please, and licorice.

I followed the tutorial almost exactly, and here’s how it came out:

essie mojito madness, avenue maintain, butler please, licorice, beyond cozy

It’s definitely not perfect, and I am so glad I just bought smaller striping brushes, so my lines can be thinner and more steady (I hope!). What do you think about it? Check out the other manicures for today:

I will see you tomorrow for day 19 of the Oh Mon Dieu Rather Awesome Challenge! Until then,

July Tri-Polish Challenge: Half Moon Dots

Good afternoon! Today is the third Tuesday, so it’s time to start the July Tri-Polish challenge! This month’s colors are: blue, blue, and green. I’ve chosen essie butler please (blue), essie mojito madness (green), and essie avenue maintain (blue) for my colors. I’ve also used essie licorice and essie beyond cozy for my neutrals. Here are the polishes I’ve used for today’s manicure:

OMD Rather Awesome Challenge: Day 14 Flowers

Good morning lovies! Late and to the point post today – I’ve been feeling pretty awful the last couple of days. Here are the nail polishes I’ve used:

essie fiji, essie tart deco, essie hip-anema, Hare Polish Let Them Eat What...

I started off with one coat of essie fiji:
essie fiji

essie fiji

I didn’t really care if it was patchy, as I was just using it as a base color for Hare Polish Let Them Eat What… This is 2 thin coats of Let Them Eat What.

I then used essie tart deco, fiji and hip-anema to make flowers on each nail:

What do you think? I rather like my pretty little flowers. Check out the rest of today’s manicures by clicking here. I will see you tomorrow, hopefully I am feeling better! Until then,

OMD Rather Awesome Challenge: Day 8 Matte

Good morning, wherever you are! I’ve been up for awhile, doing housework and getting kids breakfast. Today is my wonderful husband’s birthday, and I let him sleep in a bit before the kids and I sang him happy birthday.

Today, I have for you Day 8 matte nails. I’m afraid I didn’t do anything creative here. ๐Ÿ˜ฆ I took essie hip-anema as a base, 2 coats:

essie hip-anema

This is such a lovely bright color. ๐Ÿ™‚ I hadn’t used it before. I then used essie leading lady over it:

essie hip-anema and leading lady

I should have used a different topper over hip-anema, because leading lady just kind of took over. I think it does “warm up” the manicure though. I then matte-fied it using essie matte about you:

I love using the matte about you! The sparkles just look so nifty. ๐Ÿ™‚ What do you think?

Well, I have a long day ahead, I’m going to try to bake a cake for my hubby! Be sure to check out the other matte manicures by clicking here. As always,

Fashion Friday (It’s so late)

Okay, well, I had to take myself off to do some errands, and I come home and it’s 4 hours later and I haven’t yet posted Fashion Friday! :/ Sigh. Some days are just like that, ya know? Here is today’s inspiration, a Banana Republic ad from Elle magazine:

I started off with two coats of OPI Don’t Pretzel My Buttons. Then I drew loopy “petals” with one of my nail art brushes with Zoya Jules:

I then filled in some of the “petals” with Zoya Cola:

I filled in the rest of the “petals” with Orly Gumdrop:

Lastly, the middle dot with essie No More Film:

Topped off with HK Girl fast dry top coat.

It didn’t come out quite perfect, but I do like how it ended up. What do you think? What would you have done differently?ย

I hope you are all ready for a great weekend! I will see you tomorrow for Day 6 of the OMD Rather Awesome Challenge! As always,

Fashion Friday

Products used are self-purchased.

I am so excited about today’s Fashion Friday! You may or may not know that I have a stack of magazines that I look through for every Fashion Friday. Last night I was having theย hardest time picking just one! I finally narrowed it down to this one:

Fashion Friday heels

I love the curves, I love the mix of dots and stripes, and I love the pop of color. I didn’t want to do the exact same colors as the inspiration though, so I switched it up a bit. Instead of the red, I used Sinful Colors Cream Pink, a hot pink with hidden golden shimmer. Instead of black for the dots and stripes, I used A England Tristam. I completed it also using Sinful Colors Snow Me White and essie licorice.

The following two pictures are both inside, with flash:

I love how the pink is so bright, and using Tristam adds a bit of shimmer and depth, instead of using just flat black. What do you think? What’s on your nails today? P.S. If you haven’t voted for me yet in fingerprints new blogger of the month (June), please do so here. As always,

Fashion Friday: Nail Fail and Nail Success

Memorial Day weekend was too crazy for me to get Fashion Friday done, so I have it for you today. As the title says, I have a nail fail and nail success to share with you.

First, the bad news aka nail fail. I was trying to copy this:

fashiontoes4

I was going to do something else on my fingernails, so I made a try for my toenails. Sigh. It just didn’t come out right at all. I used Sinful Colors Snow Me White as a base, then used essie licorice to make the lines. (I’m desperately trying to remember the navy blue that I used, and I can’t. If I remember, I will update the post.) I really really need a very small striping brush to make better lines, because I did these lines using a toothpick. (Another reason I don’t think it came out right.)

And a close-up:

In reality, it wasn’t as see-through as it seems in the close-up. If I’m able to get a small striping brush, I’m going to try doing this on my fingernails and seeing if I have better luck.

Okay, onto the nail success! This is the design I was trying to emulate:

fashionsandals6

I first wanted to start off with mannequin hands, so I used two coats of OPI Don’t Pretzel My Buttons. P.S. I freaking love this color as a nude base!

fashionsandals9

Then using a striping brush with essie licorice, I did three vertical lines on each nail, with the center line being shorter than the two side lines. Then I connected the three vertical lines with diagonal lines. Lastly, I used Sephora by OPI’s Only Gold for Me and a toothpick to place gold accents on the points of the lines. The first photo is in natural light, the other two photos are in full sunlight.

I was really happy with how my fingernails turned out, which made me a little more bummed that my toenails weren’t up to my standards, haha! What do you think? What would you have done differently with the pedicure? I will have the last May Challenge up later today, so keep an eye out for that!
