Good afternoon lovelies! How is your afternoon going? Our weather is warming up a bit (yay for above zero!), so I’ve been enjoying a bit more sunshine. 🙂 I have for you this afternoon (haha evening) a duo review of Cover Girl’s Flamed Out mascara and ink it! eye pencil.
Flamed Out mascara with the “Volume Igniter brush” is “specially designed to add volume to EVERY lash for bigger, thicker, and fuller lashes to help maximize volume” (according to packaging). Let’s look at some pictures, hmmm?
The casing feels very light, and honestly very cheap to me. That may not be a big deal to some people, but when the casing is so light, it throws off the balance of my hand in applying the mascara. The brush covers my lashes well, but I did have to use two coats (as in, apply one coat, for it to dry, then apply a second coat) for full coverage. When I took off my makeup though, I noticed that the mascara had flaked everywhere and it was flaky coming off. Not really a pleasant experience.
If you’re looking for a similar type of mascara brush, my recommendation is Rimmel’s Scandal Eyes mascara. It has a bit heavier of casing, and covers each lash much better.
Next, I have for you the ink it! perfect point plus all-day eye pencil in black ink. This eye pencil has “vibrant, high impact color” that “glides on smoothly with pen-like precision”(according to packaging). It has a self-sharpening pencil, and is crease and fade resistant, and is waterproof. Pics!
I really liked that this stayed put, all day long – no smudging at all. But, it definitely did not glide on smoothly, I had to really press to get it to go on. I’m also not a fan of the self-sharpening pencil part, it’s very easy for the tip to break off, especially combined with having to press harder. Plus, it clicks when you push up the eyeliner. Kind of annoying! 😛
If you’re looking for a similar self-sharpening eye pencils (without the clicking), my recommendations would be Physicians Formula Shimmer Strips eyeliner trio, Revlon ColorStay eyeliner, or Almay intense i-color.
Here is a pic of each swatched on the back of my hand. The eyeliner is the top two lines, the mascara the bottom line:
Here is the look I created with both of these products:
As you can see, the eyeliner did give a nice fine line, close to the lash line, and the mascara did coat the lashes nicely as well (after 2 coats). Have you tried either of these products yet? I’d love to know your thoughts about them in the comments below! 🙂
Until the next time,
