I’ve been in a bad place lately with my anxiety and even though my nails are at a really nice length (*knock on wood*), I haven’t felt like painting my nails at all. I almost had an anxiety attack the other night because I couldn’t decide on what to use to paint my nails. That’s something I really hate about anxiety – the freaking out about stupid – absolutely stupid & pointless – shit. I’ve barely left the house because crowds give me anxiety as well as just general anxiety about being out in public.

Anyway, in a group I’m in on Facebook (Magnetic Polish Lovers), Christine (@shortywhatwhat) shared a mani where she layered a clear to purple thermal with a magnetic polish. I thought it was such a nifty idea and tried it with a clear to blue thermal and a different Shleee Polish (that mani will be coming soon) and it didn’t turn out. I really wanted this concept to work so I decided to experiment a little bit and found out a combo that worked in some flame drag marble nail art. I almost used Don Deeva Box Office Bitch – which I may use in a different thermal magnetic mani combo.

The only thing with this mani is that I didn’t get Cardiac Arrest’ed even on each nail so some nails have a strong thermal shift and some don’t. :/ Even now, I’m sitting here looking at my nails thinking they look like shit, they’re stupid, they aren’t even, the flames aren’t very good, my ideas are stupid…blah blah blah. What’s stupid is my anxiety and how it makes me feel.

I know that I didn’t give you many details yet so I guess I should do that. I painted two coats of Annihilation on my nails first, followed by a third thick coat then a blob of CA at the tips and used a brush to “flame” it through Annihilation. I think I should have just done one of Annihilation before adding CA, but oh well. The magnetic and thermal effects both come through fairly well!

I know I’m freaking wordy at times but I really do appreciate each of you that reads my blog and interacts with me on my Facebook, instagram, twitter, and in Facebook groups. Your support means a lot to me, especially when I feel like throwing in the blogging towel.

  1. I know I’ve said it quite a few times already, but hot damn these magnetic polishes are bringing out so much creativity. I just swatched KBS Insert Coin and that polish is crazy amazing…it came out looking even more amazing with my hell strong magnet. I may go back and get another from that rando little beauty supply. Personally, I love your mani.

  2. Absolutely gorgeous. I love the color combination and the technique is so uniquely different. This is very inspiring and I can’t wait to try it. I just hope it turns out as good as yours, thank you so much for sharing!

  3. This mani is so beautiful and I have 2 magnetic Shleees but not Annahlation yet, but I do have the Deeva CA. I clicked on your link as soon a shot I saw the pic because I loved it so much, I wanted to try it. How do you “flame” the polishes? I have a new clean up diagonal shape brush. Thanks 😍

    • Hi Lila! So here’s a quick rundown:
      1. Apply 1 to 2 coats of your base polish (mine was Annihilation).
      2. Apply one more thicker coat of your base color.
      3. At the tips, quickly apply your contrasting color.
      4. Using something thin (a thin brush, a thin dotting tool, a toothpick), drag the contrasting polish thru the base polish.
You have to work quickly because the base polish will start drying where you can’t drag the contrasting polish through it.
If you have any questions, let me know! 😊
