Hey there every
thingone (wow, I’m seriously sleep-deprived right now). Today I have a new-to-me collaborative indie polish box to show you. See, there’s this place called Acetone Alley on Facebook, where you can get the latest gossip & dish about nail related subjects. It’s a pretty cool place but it can also be a little dangerous (especially if someone is caught being shady!). There’s also a dropbox where people can send questions/rants/etc anonymously; this is where the idea of anonymous makers (anonamaker) for this collab box comes from. At any rate, for awhile now (obviously since we’re on box #4), makers have been coming together with polishes featuring catch phrases that have originated in the group. I bought one of the first 10 (?) that were available for immediate shipping after they were shown off in the group and today starts the pre-order for the rest of the boxes. So – you’ve been warned – spoilers ahead!
Don’t read further if you don’t want to know which maker made which polish!
No, seriously. Turn back now.
It’s your last chance!
Okay, don’t say I didn’t warn you!
Up first is Lollipop Posse Lacquer 50 Pages from the Book of Shade. This is my first experience with LPL.
50PftBoS is a clear-based kitchen-sink glitter topper with small holographic bits. It is quite thick, but I chalk that up to how much & how many glitters are in this. It might need 2 coats of top coat. I like glitter toppers, but kitchen-sink style toppers aren’t really my thing.
This is 3 coats plus 2 coats of top coat sponged on by itself, and 1 coat plus 2 coats of top coat over If I Were a Peacock Tail….
Pretty Jelly Beating a Dead Unicorn is next!
BaDU is a clear based small holographic glitter polish with the addition of UCC flakes. I found this to be more purple than I expected from just looking at the bottle.
This is also fairly thick with base. I found the first coat to be sheer and uneven but subsequent coats covered better. It does dry gritty. This is 3 coats plus 2 coats of top coat.
Onto the next polish which is ellagee Red Red Whine. I’ve covered ellagee loads of times on this blog, basically because I like her polishes!
Red Red Whine is a red holographic polish with golden shimmer and (I think) additional red glitters or flakes or somethin’!
Did I mention the weather has been shit here lately and there’s no damn sun for holographic polishes?? (Yes, I’m irritated!) This had a good consistency and even application; it does dry matte. This is 2 coats plus top coat.
Next up is Contrary Polish If I Were a Peacock Tail…
IIWaPT is a purple-based shifty polish with strong green shimmer. I believe there is added blue specks as well.
As you can see, this shifted nicely from a cobalt blue to purple while keeping that teal green shimmer. This had a good consistency but was sheer; it will get patchy if you don’t let each coat dry. It dries satin. This is 3 coats plus top coat.
Last is my personal favorite, Cameo Colours Lacquers I Feel Petty, Oh So Petty.
IFPOSP is a holographic multichrome polish that shifts from grape purple to red purple to blue to teal blue to teal green, with the addition of UCC flakes and holographic shards. I love this one so a lot more photos below!
This had good consistency and even application; it dries satin. This is 2 coats plus top coat. One more photo? Oh, okay!
Yeah, I’m in love with this one for sure!
This box also includes a cuticle oil from Cuter Cuticles in buttered popcorn scent called Wanna Be Startin Something. Unfortunately for me, I absolute loathe that scent. I was going to try it just for you readers, but it does smell quite strongly of popcorn. (Side note: do you love the popcorn Jelly Bellys or hate them? Obviously I’m on the hate side.)
The box includes (as shown above) a business card for each maker. I really appreciate that because I do keep business cards from makers. As well as the cuticle oil and business cards, I received an official “Acetone Alley Member” card, 2 magnets with Fresh Snark Snack popcorn images on them (that say “Bring on the Comments”), 2 Fireball candies, and a couple of salt packets.
I paid $50 for the box, plus an additional $7.50 in shipping. Anonamaker Box #4 is available at Anonamaker.com from May 3 through May 13; the first 25 boxes are available for immediate shipment with pre-order opening afterwards. Any individual item orders and box orders will ship on or before May 30. The polishes offered in the box may or may not be offered through maker’s shops after the box is done.
Before I break my word count record (psst, too late I think!), let me know your thoughts on these polishes and if they interest you!
