Baroness X Sir Cockicorn vs ILNP The Magician: how do they match up?

Purchased by Me buttonMorning everyone! I worked on comparison posts this week with unicorn pee polishes – so called because the pigment used to make them is so rare. Today I have one of the newest on the market: ILNP The Magician to go up against a similar polish, Baroness X Sir Cockicorn [previously swatched].

Let’s first take a look at the polishes in the bottle. They seem very similar just by looking at them. The Magician seems a bit more pale though.

I’ve used 1 coat of each plus top coat over essie bell-bottom blues. The Magician is on my index and ring fingers, Sir Cockicorn is on my middle and pinky fingers.

To my eye, it seems as though the particles in The Magician are more tightly packed that they are in Sir Cockicorn.

Having more tightly packed particles gives the illusion that the shift is stronger in The Magician, though I don’t believe that to be the case. Sir Cockicorn also has teeny sparkles (which you can see in the Baroness X bottle photo above). There is supposed to be added glitters but honestly I don’t really notice the glitters on the nail at all. Unless the sparkles are the glitters? They are so small though.

Now that I have both, would I buy The Magician again? In all honestly, probably not. I know that a lot of us that are nail polish hoarders collectors will want ALL.THE.UNICORN.PEE polishes, but in this instance, I don’t think it’s necessary.

Stay tuned because I will have two more unicorn pee comparison posts coming – hopefully in the coming two weeks. Let me know what you think of this post in the comments – I hope it was helpful!

  1. It is my understanding that sir Cockicorn has glitter in it. That was in her description anyway. The Magician doesn’t. I have trouble with acetone and won’t use polish with glitter because of the removal. To me, that is an important thing.

  2. Thank you for this post! I love seeing the comparisons of The Magician with other UP toppers, especially with different bases. They are really helpful for people who were unable to get the previously-released toppers that had the special pigment.

  3. Great comparison, I wasn’t aware of the BaronessX polish. I highly recommend trying 3 coats over black to get the fullest and purest Unicorn Pee experience. It’s helpful to photograph it in the right kind of light too, I had great results on an overcast day, and under can lighting in my kitchen. I have pictures up of how this came out for me.

  5. Sir cockicorn has tiny micro glitters and the removal of that polish is the exact same as any other polish! Not difficult at all like other normal glitters. And from the first sir cockicorn I purchased months ago vs. the sir cockicorn I recently just purchased, the old one I can’t even see any micro glitters in it at all and was very disappointed. The newest purchase of sir cockicorn, I can totally see the micro glitters and it is absolutely stunning! So I do believe that the amount of micro glitters got upped slightly and I’m so happy about that!

    • Also, I personally am very happy I got both lol but I hear what you’re saying about not thinking you needed both. You should buy another sir cockicorn. You will be happy with the difference from the one you used here.
