What’s In My Travel Bag: Makeup Edition

Press Sample buttonGood morning! This week, I’m talking about “What’s In My Travel Bag” since I’ll be traveling soon. Today I’m sharing with you what I consider to be my makeup essentials for traveling.

What's In My Makeup Travel Bag | Be Happy And Buy Polish

My requirements for what goes in my makeup bag: 1) it has to be something I will actually use, 2) no repeats (double blush, double bronzer, etc),  3) it has to be a necessity, and 4) I can’t go buy something new just for the trip.

Neutrogena naturals purifying makeup wipes | Be Happy And Buy Polish

While actually traveling to my destination (by car because I don’t fly anymore) I tend not to wear makeup because I don’t want to have to mess around with it. Plus, you get in late to your destination and who wants to do anything but sack out, right? So my first item is the only item in my bag allowed to break rule #4: makeup wipes. I treasure these things during a trip! Seriously perfect when you finally get to your destination or during the times while you’re traveling that your face just gets hot & sticky.

I recently had a chance to try out Neutrogena Naturals “Purifying makeup remover cleansing towelettes” (press sample) from Influenster. I personally wouldn’t recommend these for removing a “full face” of makeup but if you’re traveling or otherwise have light makeup on, these are perfect. The wipes themselves do have a slight fragrance which can be irritating if you have a sensitive nose. They come in a pack of 25 for (current price) $6.97 on amazon.

bareMinerals BareSkin in Shell, Laura Geller Spackle in Champagne, Skin79 BB compact | Be Happy And Buy Polish

Now let’s start with a fresh face and work our way up to a finished face. I will always bring a primer, especially if I’ll be going to a more humid climate than I am used to. My current primer is spackle in champagne by Laura Geller. My foundation is bareMinerals BareSkin in BareShell 02, and powder is Skin79 Diamond BB UV Perfect BB Pact.

Rimmel London ScandalEyes mascara, eyeliner, elf glitter primer | Be Happy And Buy Polish

For eyes, I’ll bring my eyelash curler (naturally), e.l.f. primer, Rimmel London ScandalEyes Retro Glam mascara, Rimmel London ScandalEyes Thick/Thin eyeliner.

Sephora eyeshadow palette for green eyes | Be Happy And Buy Polish

I’m also bringing my Sephora eyeshadow palette for green eyes, as it has neutral colors and dramatic colors. I usually try to get my brows waxed & dyed before a trip, so no extras necessary there.

Urban Decay Naked On the Run makeup palette | Be Happy And Buy Polish

I’m also bringing my Urban Decay Naked On the Run palette, as it has blush, highlighter, and bronzer in it and 5 more eyeshadow shades; plus mascara, eyeliner, and lip gloss. Now I know I said no repeats, but since it’s a set that already has those items in it, it’s not really cheating (okay it is but dammit, I’m not bringing it for the repeats!).

Burts Bees Vanilla Bean Lip Balm, NYX Thalia lipstick, Too Faced Melted Fuschia, Profusion Feline Cheshire | Be Happy And Buy Polish

Last is lips. This is probably the hardest thing for me to narrow down (besides eyeshadows). I already have a lip gloss (which I probably won’t use anyway because ugh gloss), so no need for another gloss. I keep a darker red lipstick in my purse at all times, so I won’t go double there. I also wanted lipsticks/lip products that would leave a stain as then you don’t have to reapply as often. I settled for NYX Thalia, a nude matte lipstick; Too Faced Melted Fuchsia, a bright pink; Profusion Feline Lip Luster in Cheshire, a bright-ish purple; and Burt’s Bees Moisturizing Lip Balm in Vanilla Bean.

The only thing on this list that is missing is SPF for my face. I’m currently testing a few different ones out and I don’t know what I like the best quite yet.

I know this seems like a lot, but believe me, for a chronic over packer, this is getting off easy – and yes, everything fit in the bag at the beginning of this post (except the makeup wipes). What’s in your makeup travel bag?

  1. What a great selection of travel essentials! You are so much more practical with your lippie choices than I am! I routinely carry dar too many, and only use a few of them! You have the right idea! Excellent palette choices too!

  2. A lot? Wow, I need to chuck out 90% of the contents of my makeup bag LOL. Seriously, I loved this post and I think you’ve chosen the products very cleverly and after a great deal of thought. I should take a leaf out of your book and pick just two palettes that contain a variety of shades and face products. Plus, choose lipsticks across shades. The keyword, as you said, is to avoid repeats. Will try out your tips. Thank you!

  3. If I’m just going for a visit I can pack smaller (not as small as this, though! lol), but if I have an event like a wedding I pack ALL my makeup. I just can’t decide what I want to use until I’m getting ready. lol
