Pirate Nail Art Challenge: Sea Creatures

Ahoy, me hearties! Today be the first day o’ th’ Pirate Nail Art Challenge, and I hope ye be ready for it! πŸ˜‰ Who knows what creepy crawlies lurk in the depths o’the ocean? The mysteries…what jaws await to snatch ye up? If yer skeered of the ocean, best ye not be readin’ any further!

Okay, enough pirate talk! πŸ˜› I’ll be the first to admit, lakes/oceans/etc freak me out. I struggle with not seeing the bottom of what I’m swimming in, and my imagination runs loose with what’s down there ready to eat me alive. So what else could I do for today’s prompt of “sea creatures” but a big ole set of sharp teeth?

I’ve use Jessica Surfer Boyz n Berry as a base, then sponged OPI Mermaid’s Tears (appropriate, no?) on top. Then using Jessica Milky Way, OPI My Boyfriend Scales Walls, and OPI Steady As She Rose, I created the mouth and teeth. Finally, I topped it off with ellagee glass. I wanted to leave it ambiguous enough to really let you, my lovely reader, use your imagination! What do you imagine it to be?

Do you get freaked out by lakes & oceans? Please let me know I’m not alone! Tomorrow’s prompt is “oceans”, so I’ll see you then! Don’t forget, if you want to join our fun nail art challenges, to join the Challenge Your Nail Art group!

  1. Um…oceans totally freak me out too. When I lived in Jacksonville people were always talking about going to the beach all day every day and I’m like….no thank you…do you KNOW what’s in the water?? I love your interpretation of this prompt! It has a such a ominous feel to it.

  2. You did such a good job on this! Our aquarium has been advertising the sea creatures display with a bloody-mouthed shark (or that’s what I think I saw because it was flashing so fast!) and I was, like, “Well, shiver me timbers! :P”

  3. Girl, I am the same way about the ocean. I love being in the water but not being able to see below me freaks me out so much, I’ve even had a panic attack over it once while snorkeling in Hawaii. UGH! That being said, the ocean still intrigues me so I love what you did with this prompt.

  4. This is adorable Jessica! And I agree with Kirby, I TOTALLY see Bruce from Finding Nemo! I really DO NOT like swimming in the ocean. Strangely enough, I will float around in all the random lakes of south Alabama that I know have alligators in them…I just try not to think about it…

  5. Cute! And you are so not alone. I can’t stand not being able to see the bottom and like you I just think about what could be below me (even if it is completely irrational).

  6. I have the same fear of ocean/lake, I just can’t swim out there, I’d freak out without any reason! This mani is awesome, scary sharp teeth!!!

  7. Your pirate talk made my day! I’m so bummed that I wont be doing this challenge with you. Life got hectic all of a sudden and I just don’t have the time. Your teeth turned out great. I love the subtle sponging underneath and I agree that Mermaids tear is the perfect name for the polish used.

  8. This is such a great idea and so creative. It totally reminds me of a character from Sharks Tale. I just cant remember which one. Dang it,… It will come to me. But I am loving this mani. Seriously your manis ROCK!!

  9. So these teeth totally made me giggle, they are so perfect! But they are smiling like that shark in Finding Nemo to me lol
Also, my older cousins made me watch Jaws when I was little and it scared the bejeezus out of me :-/

  10. The bottom pix makes it look like one badass creepy smile. The whole time I was reading your post, I had the theme from Jaws in my head..
