Hi everyone! Once the new color of the year from Pantone was announced, I knew I wanted to go through my stash and see which nail polishes would be considered part of that color scheme. I used this pyramid from Sephora to go through my stash:
Well, I didn’t realize how many polishes I owned in that color pyramid, so I’ve decided to break this down into a few epic posts! This first post is going to be more “on point” to the actual color, from light to dark.Β These aren’t mean to be exactly the same as the below picture, but a close approximation (whether light or dark).
Some of these swatches are from when I was first starting out, so please don’t laugh at them! (Okay, you can. I mean, I did. π )
First up, Sinful Colors Cupids Arrow:
Sinful Colors Mauve:
essie full steam ahead:
Sinful Colors Purple Diamond (slightly more purple than photo):
Sinful Colors Tempest:
OPI Planks A Lot:
Part two of this epic post will include slightly darker nail polishes; part three will include the darkest polishes; part four Β will focus on the softer pink/purple; part five on brighter pink/purple; part six on darker pink/purple (leaning berry). Let me know in the comments if you would like me to compare colors side-by-side, and I’ll do a last post (part seven) on comparisons.
What do you think of these polishes? The one I like the best is Sinful Colors Tempest. π If you’re on pinterest, I’m pinning all the nail polishes onto a brand new board, so be sure to follow it right here. Tomorrow is another day of the 12 Days of Xmas Manis challenge & another set of Advent nails. Until then,
OMG what an awesome post! I have to say when Pantone announced the color I wasn’t impressed at all. I thought to myself “Great,.what a Granny color” But since seeing the pyramid and your swatches I am falling in love with the choice! I’m writing down all of these names too because now I have to go out and snatch most of these π
hahaha, granny color! I totally busted out laughing π I think there are so many combinations that can really make it edgy, but also combinations to make it really soft and feminine. π
I loooove SC Tempest, as well! I tend to wear a lot of the darker shades of orchid in my clothing, so I’m pretty cool with Pantone’s selection this time around. π
Awesome! Be sure to check back the next time, I think you’ll like the darker colors I have in store. π
Great colors!
Aren’t they though? I’m having too much fun playing with these colors. π
I hope this prompts companies to make more purple polishes. I was looking for a good cream violet for my mom for xmas, but they are hard to find. When I was at Sally’s looking at all the brands there were tons of every other color, but surprisingly not many purples! And the ones they did have were either too dark or shimmery. Did you know that Sally’s Beauty finally sells OPI now?
They are hard to find! I had a lot of purples (I mean, a lot) that wouldn’t fit in this color family because they were so blue-toned. It’s very frustrating! I did hear that Sally’s was going to sell OPIs but the last time I was in my local one, they didn’t have them yet. π¦
I love the Essie polish and SC Tempest. So pretty! I ran into Sally’s this afternoon and my local store had OPI polishes, I noted the display so I could go back to it and after I got what I needed I completely forgot to look! Just as well, I forgot my beauty club card at home, too! ha!
The essie is nice since it has a bit of sparkle in it, but it’s not overpowering at all. π I always forget my card – but they can look up your membership # under your phone number, I think?
They can, but their system was down that day (this store seems to have chronic computer issues) so they weren’t able to look it up. π¦
Oh it just figures, doesn’t it! π¦
This is such a great post! I love the idea and I can’t wait to see what else you break out! I LOVE purple, and I wish I had more in my collection π
Oh my gosh, you’re going to be on purple overload then!! π
